Steven Furtick - The Glitch
Just like the girl in the movie ‘Wreck It Ralph’, we have glitches in our life.
2 Corinthians 10:7-12
7 You are judging by appearances.[a] If anyone is confident that they belong to Christ, they should consider again that we belong to Christ just as much as they do. 8 So even if I boast somewhat freely about the authority the Lord gave us for building you up rather than tearing you down, I will not be ashamed of it. 9 I do not want to seem to be trying to frighten you with my letters. 10 For some say, “His letters are weighty and forceful, but in person he is unimpressive and his speaking amounts to nothing.” 11 Such people should realize that what we are in our letters when we are absent, we will be in our actions when we are present.
12 We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise.
Just like Paul, our credentials are questioned throughout our seasons of life. The question that never goes away in our life sounds like this: ‘DO I HAVE WHAT IT TAKES?’
In our youth, we question ourselves, “Do I have what it takes to finish school?”
In our 20s, we question ourselves, “Do I have what it takes to make a living?”
In our 30s, we question ourselves, “Do I have what it takes to be a good parent?”
In our 40s, we question ourselves, “Do I have what it takes to pass my knowledge to my kids?”
The people questioned Paul whether or not he had what it takes. Sometimes we don’t even need to question ourselves to have people questioning us. Most of the times, people became very good in reminding us that we do not have what it takes.
One time before Steven Furtick got on the stage, he found himself labeled UNQUALIFIED by a well-known theologian in YouTube. Instead of feeling offended by it, he realized that we are all unqualified. In fact, all the characters in the bible are unqualified. Moses was insecure of his public speaking skills, Esther was doubtful, but God used them anyway!
The key to overcoming our glitches is to OWN our glitches. Own your un-qualifications!
Back to Paul.
With an unshaking confident, he wrote a letter to the Corinthians stating that he is not ashamed of it. He spoke openly about what people think of him because he knew that his glitches wouldn’t stop God from using him.
Think about it. Would Paul be writing many books in the bible if he were a better public speaker? Would we be quoting many bible verses written by Paul if he could preach better?
Just like Paul; you might not be impressive to the world, but you could be effectively used by God.
The things that you are embarrassed about could actually be the portals that God uses to change your life. The next time you are tempted to disown your glitch, remember that He is not just the God of your gift, He is also the God of your glitch.
